Busanze coffee washing station is one of our new coffee washing stations. It started its operation in 2018. The station is located in Busanze Sector of Nyaruguru District of the Southern Province of  Rwanda, right by Nyungwe forest. The idea of Busanze washing station rose after observing the region and we found that the region has potentiality in the coffee of very good quality. However, there was no washing station around the area. In its first year of operation Busanze washing station ranked the 7th in the Alliance Cup of excellence award with a score of 89 points. Busanze washing coffee story is not only about the quality, but it is also about the history and patriotism of Nyaruguru people.

Usually, Nyaruguru district is known for the resilience of its people. During the pre-colonial Rwanda, the region was known as the home of “Inyaruguru”, the well celebrated and undefeated army branch. After the genocide against the Tutsi, Nyaruguru is now a beacon of unity and reconciliation. It is in that context Busanze coffee washing station is playing a big role by grouping farmers in cooperatives based on the context of each village. A good example is a success story of Cooperative Umurego Nteko (KUN) that composed of 82 farmers mainly young men and women, actually 52% of women from genocide survivors and other peers from perpetrator’s family.
